Alun Wyn Jones plays down Wales win

Wales lock Alun Wyn Jones plays down the significance of his side's 28-25 victory over England at Twickenham in the Rugby World Cup.

Wales lock Alun Wyn Jones has played down the importance of his side's dramatic 28-25 victory over England at Twickenham on Saturday.

The visitors overcame a string of injury problems to launch a late comeback in their Rugby World Cup encounter, which had been billed as arguably the biggest match ever between the two old rivals.

However, Jones insists that there is plenty for his side to work on and stressed that they are still just two games into their campaign.

When asked how big of an achievement it was to pick up the win, Jones told Sports Mole: "It's OK, it's pretty good. Let's be realistic - it's only the second game of the pool stage. We realise that, we'll enjoy it but we've got Fiji on Thursday.

"We've got a bit to work on - the scrum the lineout. No excuses, we've got to shore that up definitely, and Fiji have had a few extra days [of rest] and we're aware of the threat they have. We can take the compliments, take a look at certain errors again and hopefully we can kick on.

"We had 10 lineouts in the game and lost three, one stolen and two of our own errors so we were under pressure. I thought we showed a bit of bravery by defending that final lineout drive and the way we shored it up in the end."

Liam Williams, Scott Williams and Hallam Amos joined Warren Gatland's growing list of absentees during the match, but Jones is confident that any replacements will step up to the plate.

"I don't know if it sends a message. I'd rather focus on the character of the team as a whole rather than who we lost. Hopefully those guys are going to be OK, but they'll be assessed in due course and we go from there," he added.

Wales sit top of Pool A as a result of their win, with Fiji and Australia still to come in their final two group games.
