England secure dramatic late victory against Wales in plate final

England beat Wales 17-15 to win the rugby sevens plate final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Phillip Burgess's last-gasp try has given England a 17-15 victory over Wales in the men's rugby sevens plate final.

Wales took the lead at Ibrox when Lee Williams collected a flicked sidedoor pass from Adam Thomas before crossing over for the opening try of the contest.

Things got worse for England shortly after when William Harries helped extend Wales's lead to 10-0, but Daniel Bibby managed to pull a try back for his side, leaving Christian Lewis-Pratt to kick over the extras.

But celebrations were cut short when Luke Morgan found the corner before the interval to extend Wales's advantage, leaving England with a lot to think about at half time.

They were right back in the match when Marcus Watson skidded over to reduce the deficit to three points, however, and Burges's dive into the corner with the very last play of the game sealed a dramatic turnaround victory for England to see them awarded the plate.
