Scott Johnson: 'Victory would change nothing'

Scotland interim head coach Scott Johnson insists that a win against Italy on Saturday will not mask the team's poor Six Nations campaign to date.

Scotland interim head coach Scott Johnson has claimed that a victory against Italy on Saturday would not make up for the team's poor Six Nations campaign to date.

The Bravehearts were tipped to impress during the tournament after finishing third last year, but they have been beaten by Ireland and England in their opening two matches.

Johnson has insisted that beating the Azzurri, who have also lost their first two games, will not mask his side's weaknesses.

"There is no doubt, we would take a win," he told PA. "It would be good for the guys but it won't be the end of all our ills either.

"I keep talking about it, we want consistency in this team. We could win ugly tomorrow and everyone would feel good about themselves. But that is only a temporary measure.

"That's one of my issues with Scottish rugby. We seem to settle for these little peaks and then the troughs. Yes, a win would be great for morale, but let's not delude ourselves, we have to do it more often."

Johnson has made three changes to the team ahead of the clash in Rome.
