Just one point separated the sides after 30 minutes, with Charlie Hodgson having kicked two penalties for Saracens, before Seb Stegmann scored a try on his debut for the Exiles.

However, with Phil MacKenzie in the sin bin, the visitors conceded a penalty try, which resulted in a yellow card for Tom Bristow, leaving Welsh two men short for five minutes.

Joel Tomkins and Will Fraser added tries in the second half to give the hosts a comfortable lead heading in to the final 10 minutes.

Gavin Henson thought that he had reduced the home side's advantage when he darted into the corner, but the replays showed that there was an obstruction in the buildup.

A further Saracens score from David Strettle secured the win, taking the club four points clear of Harlequins, while London Welsh remain 11th.
