Hugo Southwell will miss Scotland's World Cup campaign after suffering a knee injury.
The full-back picked up the problem in May and has failed to regain full fitness in time for the tournament's start in September.
"After talking this through with Hugo we've decided to stand him down from our World Cup squad by mutual consent," said coach Andy Robinson.
"Hugo has been working hard to recover from a knee injury but has not been able to take a full part in our training camp," he added.
Scotland begin their World Cup campaign on August 10 against Romania.
