Australian Super Rugby side New South Wales Waratahs are not in contact with Leinster centre Brian O'Driscoll, according to coach Michael Cheika.

New South Wales Waratahs coach Michael Cheika has insisted that he has had no contact with Leinster centre Brian O'Driscoll about joining the Australian Super Rugby side.

Reports have claimed that the Ireland international is pondering a switch to the Sydney club, but former Leinster coach Cheika has tried to play down such suggestions.

"Obviously I know Brian very well," BBC Sport quotes Cheika as saying. "I saw him before I left. I went to say goodbye but we haven't spoken since.

"It is no secret that he is one of a number of top players over there who would love to come down and play in the Super 15. We don't have a marquee player and whether we would go down that road is something we would have to discuss."

O'Driscoll has been at Leinster since 1999.
