Richard Cockerill: Leicester Tigers "lucky to win" Wasps clash

Richard Cockerill concedes that Leicester Tigers were "lucky" to beat Wasps in their 18-16 Aviva Premiership win at Welford Road.

Leicester Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill has admitted that he was left feeling "bitterly disappointed" by their display in today's narrow 18-16 victory over Wasps.

A perfect kicking display from Owen Williams ensured that the Tigers picked up the win at Welford Road to remain in fifth place in the Aviva Premiership table.

Despite claiming the four points, Cockerill found little positives to take from Leicester's showing, telling reporters: "I'm bitterly disappointed we played so poorly. It was a game we could have lost and were lucky to win.

"I'll take the four points and that, and Owen's kicking, were about as positive as the day was. We know Owen has the balls to kick important kicks, we saw that against Saracens and again today.

"It was a pretty poor game, from both teams, not a lot of rugby was played. There was ill-discipline from both sides. We turned the ball over, we did not control field position, we defended poorly, and our line speed was poor."

Leicester return to European action next weekend when they take on French giants Toulon.
