Live Commentary: France vs. Ireland

Sports Mole's live coverage of Ireland's Six Nations clash with France in Paris.

Good evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of Ireland's Six Nations clash with France in Paris.

Ireland travel to an ice-cold Paris having not beaten Les Bleus since 2009. After a frustrating loss to Wales last week, the Irish will have a point to prove tonight.

France coolly despatched Italy last week and will be confident tonight at home. Their strength though, is the versatility of their backs – which may be threatened by the hard pitch and Arctic weather. Let's hope the tough conditions don't impinge too much on what should be a thrilling game of rugby.

00min A pitch inspection is still underway. There's no under-turf heating at the Stade de France. There's a major worry that the ground may be too hard. Both coaches are having a look for themselves.

THE MATCH IS OFF
Pitch inspecttors at the Stade de France have ruled that conditions are too dangerous. There were major concerns over the safety of players.

The French team make their way onto the pitch as the announcers tell 80,000 fans that the match has been postponed. Shivering Irish supporters look particularly glum.

Ireland coach Declan Kidney says that the inspectors made "the right decision."

There are two free weekends on which to reschedule this match - next weekend and the weekend of the 3rd and 4th March. Kidney expects a decision to be made on Monday.

Wales vs. Scotland at the Millennium Stadium is highly likely to go ahead tomorrow. That's where under-soil heating and a retractable roof gets you.

And that's that! No Six Nations rugby tonight, but join Sports Mole for all the action from Cardiff tomorrow at 3pm.
