The boot of Ignacio Mieres earns the Exeter Chiefs a 18-6 over Newport Gwent Dragons in their Amlin Challenge Cup Pool Four match.

Exeter Chiefs have gone top of Amlin Challenge Cup Pool Four with a 18-6 win over Newport Gwent Dragons at Sandy Park.

Ignacio Mieres kicked the hosts in front after four minutes before the Argentine scored three further penalties to give his side a 12-0 lead at the break.

The Dragons came out the stronger in the second half, and opened their account on 52 minutes thanks to a penalty from Steffan Jones.

Jones landed another kick just before the hour to put pressure on the hosts, but two further penalties from Mieres sealed the win for the home side.

The Chiefs face the Dragons in the return match next weekend.
