Tom Wood aiming to replicate atmosphere from Olympics

England flanker Tom Wood is hopeful that the atmosphere during the World Cup will be similar to the one created at the 2012 Olympics.

Tom Wood has claimed that England will be aiming to recapture the spirit of the Olympics when the World Cup gets underway on Friday night.

After watching athletes from other sports enjoy so much success when Great Britain hosted the Olympics three years ago, Wood believes that the challenge for Stuart Lancaster's side is to give the fans the platform to create a special atmosphere throughout the tournament.

"On the back of the Olympics and what it did for the British athletes, we want some of that," the flanker told reporters ahead of Friday's Pool A opener against Fiji.

"I know it's a two-way thing. We've got to go out there and give them something to cheer about, and hopefully on the back of that it'll be a snowball effect."

England will also take on Wales, Australia and Uruguay in Pool A.
