Henry Slade: 'We wanted to go out with a bang'

England centre Henry Slade tells Sports Mole that the team wanted to go out "with a bang" following their 60-3 win over Uruguay at the Rugby World Cup.

Henry Slade has revealed that England were aiming to go out "with a bang" in their final match at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The host nation already knew that they could not progress to the quarter-finals following losses to Wales and Australia ahead of their 60-3 win over Uruguay at the Etihad Stadium.

The centre, who scored one of the 10 tries for England, told Sports Mole: "I was really pleased with how it went. Personally I'm quite pleased to score. We talked about this performance being what people remember.

It was disappointing not to qualify from the group and that, but we wanted to go out tonight with a bang and to be remembered by this performance and I think we put on a good show.

"[The atmosphere] was awesome, I didn't think it was going to be quite as big a reaction, considering what's happened previously, but they supported us just as well as they have done for the whole tournament and that was great to see.

"We don't get many matches up here, so I think it was good for the people up here as well. There's quite a few Northern lads in there so it was a big day for them as well. A bit far from my neck of the wood but it's an unbelievable stadium, it's great to play here."

Slade will return to club side Exeter Chiefs next week ahead of the start of the Aviva Premiership season.
