England coach Stuart Lancaster: 'Late try was huge relief in victory over Fiji'

England's Stuart Lancaster admits that it was a "massive relief" when Billy Vunipola scored a late try to secure a bonus-point win over Fiji in their Rugby World Cup opener.

England coach Stuart Lancaster has revealed that he was relieved to record a bonus-point victory over Fiji in his side's Rugby World Cup opener.

The Red Rose started the match strongly by taking the lead through a penalty try and a score from Mike Brown, but Fiji hit back when Nemani Nadolo made a leaping grab in the 29th minute.

England toiled for much for the second before Brown notched his second try, and the host nation managed to secure the extra point when Billy Vunipola battled over the tryline in the dying seconds of the match.

"It was a big occasion and there were a few nerves. We got a good lead but didn't put the nail in the coffin," Lancaster told BBC Sport.

"We had to work hard and that last try late in the game was a massive relief."

Lancaster's men are next in action in Pool A against Wales next Saturday.
