Sir Gareth Edwards: 'England panic led to defeat against Wales'

Wales legend Sir Gareth Edwards believes that panic among the England ranks led to them succumbing to a 28-25 defeat against Wales in the Rugby World Cup.

Sir Gareth Edwards has claimed that panic among the England ranks led to them succumbing to defeat against Wales in the Rugby World Cup.

The 2011 semi-finalists came back from 19-9 down at Twickenham, with a Dan Biggar penalty sealing a 28-25 victory in their Pool A encounter.

Edwards, who has 53 Wales caps, told BBC Sport: "England looked so comfortable at one stage, but they seemed to panic when they were near the finish line.

"All of a sudden they started to break up and make mistakes. For me they were transgressing because of pressure and panic."

England will likely need to beat Australia to stand any chance of making the quarter-finals, although Wales must face both Fiji and the Wallabies in their final pool games.
