Saracens have romped to a 45-0 win at Edinburgh in their Heineken Cup Pool 1 opener.

Sam Tomkins got the visitors up and running when he touched down out wide after 15 minutes. Charlie Hodgson stepped up to add the extras and give his side a 7-0 lead.

The fly-half kicked over again on 23 minutes before he put the ball between the posts for a third time soon after.

The former England international scored his third penalty a minute before the break as Sarries took a 16-0 half-time advantage.

The away side were ruthless in the second half as Owen Farrell, Chris Ashton and Alex Goode all went over to secure their side a bonus point.

Hodgson capped an impressive display when he charged down an Edinburgh kick before going over and converting his side's fifth try of the match.
