Australia claim Rugby Championship title

Australia end a 10-match losing run against New Zealand to claim the Rugby Championship title for the first time since 2011.

Australia have won the Rugby Championship for the first time since 2011, beating defending champions New Zealand 27-19 in the deciding match in Sydney.

There was little to separate the two sides in the opening 40 minutes as Dan Carter added two penalties, while Matt Giteau split the uprights just once, although the Australia fly-half was denied a second when he hit the post.

It did not take the home side long to add the first try of the match after the restart though as Sekope Kepu dodged a couple of tackles before squeezing over the line for his first international try.

The All Blacks were back in front soon after as Nehe Milner-Skudder marked his first Test appearance with a try after Ben Smith offloaded the ball to him.

It was a short-lived lead though as Adam Ashley-Cooper leapt over in the corner, before Nic White came off the bench to add a penalty and try within the space of three minutes, opening up an eight-point advantage for the Wallabies inside the final 10 minutes.

New Zealand pressed hard for a late try to give themselves hope of a fourth title in the final minutes, but they were unable to break through, handing Australia their first win over the All Blacks in 11 attempts.
