Matty Russell remains doubtful for Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith reveals that full-back Matty Russell is a doubt for Friday's trip to Wigan Warriors in the Super League playoff semi-finals.

Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith has revealed that full-back Matty Russell is a doubt for this weekend's Super League playoff semi-final against Wigan Warriors.

The 21-year-old missed his side's victory over Castleford Tigers last week due to a serious facial injury.

Despite returning to full fitness, Smith admits that he will be patient in deciding whether Russell is ready to start against Wigan.

"We haven't made a final decision on him. He's trained with us today and he'll have the team run tomorrow before we make the call," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"He's been given the all-clear - he can't do any more damage and his dentist has told he has fractured high in his teeth so he's probably going to lose them - but we've got to work out whether Matty is able to play with that discomfort.

"I'm expecting him to say he's alright to go and I totally trust his decision. He'll go and give it his all if he goes on the park."

Warrington travel to Wigan for their playoff semi-final on Friday.
