Warrington move second in the Super League after edging out Wakefield 32-30 in an end-to-end affair at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Warrington Wolves edged out Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 32-30 in a thrilling Super League clash at the Halliwell Jones Stadium this afternoon.

With the Wolves towards the top end of the table and Wakefield having won just one game so far this season, the hosts were expected to run out comfortable winners.

However an early score from Danny Washbrook gave the Wildcats a surprise lead. Ryan Atkins quickly replied for Warrington but two tries in the space of five minutes from Isaac John and Richard Mathers gave the visitors an 18-6 advantage.

Two tries from Richard Myler either side of half-time levelled the scores but Wakefield went in front again courtesy of an Ali Lauitiiti try.

Minutes later Ben Westwood touched down to bring Warrington level again at 24-24 and further tries from Simon Grix and Joel Monaghan put the Wolves ahead for the first time in the match.

Vince Mellars crossed in the 73rd minute to reduce the deficit to just two points, but Warrington hung on to earn a victory that moves them into second in the table.
