St Helens winger Tommy Makinson is facing a spell on the sidelines after undergoing ankle surgery.

St Helens winger Tommy Makinson has been ruled out of action after undergoing ankle surgery.

The 23-year-old injured his ankle during the Saints' 32-12 win over Salford Red Devils in Super League on Friday.

Makinson has been a key player for St Helens this season, scoring a total of 13 tries for Keiron Cunningham's side.

"Thanks every1 for the messages! Had surgery yesterday to my damaged ankle! All looking ok! Will keep updated," he tweeted.

St Helens are back in action on June 12 when they host Wigan Warriors in the league.
