Super League roundup: St Helens hold on to top spot

Sports Mole rounds up all the action from Friday evening's games in the Super League.

Wigan Warriors needed a strong second-half performance to beat Hull Kingston Rovers in Super League this evening.

The home side made a quick start, scoring two tries in the opening 10 minutes, but the Robins fought back to lead heading into the break.

Liam Farrell got Wigan back on level terms shortly after the restart, before Iain Thornley completed his hat-trick, the first of his Super League career, to put the result beyond doubt.

Leeds Rhinos thrashed Widnes Vikings to remain just one point off the top of the table, scoring seven tries in an emphatic win.

Ben Jones-Bishop scored a pair of tries early as his teammates rushed to a comfortable lead at the break.

The home continued to score with ease after the restart before Rhys Hanbury added a late consolation for Widnes, preventing the visitors from coming away from the meeting without scoring.

St Helens held on to top spot in the table with a comfortable win over Catalans Dragons.

Four tries in the first half-hour, including two for Tommy Makinson, left the French club with too much to do after the break.

A late brace from Michael Oldfield made the score respectable for Catalan, but Lance Hohaia and Adam Swift made sure that there was no chance of a comeback.

A bright start ensured that Warrington Wolves wrapped up a win over Salford Red Devils.

The visitors scored three tries in nine minutes to take a 12-point lead into half time, before Joel Monaghan and Roy Asotasi put the result beyond doubt with a couple of late scores.

Results in full: Leeds Rhinos 38-4 Widnes Vikings, Salford Red Devils 12-28 Warrington Wolves, St Helens 40-22 Catalan Dragons, Wigan Warriors 34-20 Hull Kingston Rovers
