Laurent Frayssinous demands more protection for his Catalans Dragons players

Catalans Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous wants his players to receive more protection from referees having seen star man Todd Carney potentially sidelined for a month.

Catalans Dragons star Todd Carney could miss up to four weeks of action with a broken rib sustained against Salford Red Devils on Saturday afternoon.

The 28-year-old, who was making just his second appearance for the club since joining on a three-year contract earlier this year, was taken to hospital following the high-scoring 40-40 draw in Perpignan.

Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous was adamant that Salford forward Lama Tasi deserved to see red for the challenge, telling reporters: "I said I was worried over the protection of my quality players and it has happened in only his second game.

"I expect Tasi to be charged but I also thought he should have been shown a card."

Catalans find themselves sitting in third place in the Super League table, while opponents Salford are down in eighth.
