Daryl Powell: 'All focus on Super League campaign'

Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell calls on his players to remain focused on picking up Super League points rather than their current Challenge Cup run.

Daryl Powell has called on his Castleford Tigers players to stay focused on Super League points rather than their current cup run.

The Tigers are in league action against Widnes Vikings tonight in a dress rehearsal for next month's Challenge Cup semi-final.

The two sides last met in May with Justin Carney and Paddy Flynn being sin-binned during the Tigers' 34-22 victory in what was a feisty affair.

"The semi-final is still a few weeks away," head coach Powell is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "We need to focus on what's in front of us and that's this game. It's Super League points we're after.

"We need to ensure that we get some consistency back in our performances which have slipped a bit of late. It will be a tough game. We beat them last time and it was a little bit of a fiery affair.

"They will be highly motivated. It's a game we need to play exceptionally well in to get over the top of them. They played pretty well when we beat them. We just had a purple patch which got us away from them so there's not much between the teams to be honest."

Castleford are chasing a top-four Super League finish for the first time, while the Vikings are eyeing the playoffs.
