Tony McCoy finishes sixth in final Irish Grand National appearance

Tony McCoy finishes sixth on Cantlow in his final Irish Grand National appearance at Fairyhouse.

Nineteen-time champion jockey Tony McCoy finished sixth in his final appearance at the Irish Grand National Chase at Fairyhouse.

The 40-year-old, who will retire at the end of the season, was upstaged by Katie Walsh's novice mount Thunder and Rose, who took top spot.

Walsh, who is the sister of jockey Ruby and the daughter of trainer Ted, put herself in the history books by becoming only the third female rider to win the race.

"I've had some fantastic days, but this is an Irish National," BBC Sport quotes Walsh as saying. "It's great for women in racing."

Rule The World and Sizing Coal finished second and third respectively.
