Saido Berahino has denied suggestions that an expletive tweet, in which he conveyed shock and disappointment, was in response to West Bromwich Albion relieving Steve Clarke of his managerial duties.

An hour after Clarke's exit from The Hawthorns was made public, Berahino wrote on Twitter: "Wow i cant believe it, thats fucking shit!!!!"

With majority of Berahino's 15,000 followers, including Sports Mole, assuming that he was expressing his bemusement at Clarke's departure, the 20-year-old moved to clarify the situation.

In a follow-up tweet, he wrote: "By the way i apologise for my last tweet. This was related to a personal issue and nothing else. Please don't take the wrong way."

He then posted a picture of a tyre with a metal screw in it, accompanied by the message: "I had a flat tyre".

However, this tweet, along with the original one, was swiftly removed.
