Report: Ched Evans could receive £1m payout if rape conviction quashed

Former Sheffield United striker Ched Evans could reportedly be given around £1m in compensation if he overturns his rape conviction.

Former Sheffield United striker Ched Evans could reportedly be given £1m in compensation should his rape conviction be overturned.

The 25-year-old was released from prison almost a fortnight ago after serving half of a five-year sentence for raping a 19-year-old woman at a hotel back in May 2011.

The former Wales international's appeal has been fast-tracked by the Criminal Cases Review Commission after he insisted that he was innocent.

According to the Daily Star, Evans could be given around £1m in compensation, which will be based on the loss of earnings while he was in jail, if his appeal is successful.

Evans, whose girlfriend Natasha Massey has stood by him throughout, recently expressed a desire to return to football.
