World War II bomb near Wembley 'won't affect' playoff finals

Wembley officials confirm that this weekend's Football League playoff finals will not be affected by the unexploded WWII bomb that has been found close to the ground.

Officials at Wembley Stadium have stated that this weekend's Football League playoff finals will not be affected by the discovery of an undetonated World War Two bomb nearby.

The army were called in when a 50kg bomb, which is believed to be from the 1940 German air raids on London, was discovered close to the ground.

People nearby have been evacuated from their homes and businesses as a precaution just in case the device explodes accidentally.

However, on Wembley Stadium's official Twitter page, it was confirmed this morning that the League Two, League One and Championship playoff finals will go ahead across the Bank Holiday weekend as planned.

The tweed read: "This weekend's games remain unaffected and we look forward to welcoming supporters of all six Football League playoff finalists to Wembley."

The TV studio where ITV's Britain's Got Talent is being filmed is thought to have been one of the 300 buildings evacuated.
