Reeva Steenkamp's family deny rumours that the model was pregnant with Oscar Pistorius's child on the night that she was shot dead.

The family of Reeva Steenkamp, who was fatally shot by boyfriend Oscar Pistorius, has denied that the model was pregnant with the Paralympic champion's child.

A US tabloid claimed this week that the South African, who was shot four times through a bathroom door at Pistorius's home in Pretoria on Valentine's Day, was planning to tell the athlete that she was pregnant on the night that she died.

"The post mortem would have revealed if Reeva was pregnant and it did not reveal anything like this," family spokesman Mike Steenkamp told Times Live. "Maybe it comes from the other side, to garner and build up some sort of support for Oscar."

Pistorius, who has been charged with the premeditated murder of Steenkamp, was granted bail last week following a four-day hearing.
