Paul Gascoigne: 'Pranksters left bottles of booze at my door'

Retired footballer Paul Gascoigne claims that people have been leaving beer bottles outside of his flat in Poole.

Troubled England football legend Paul Gascoigne has claimed that people have been leaving cans and bottles of alcohol outside of his flat in Sandbanks to tempt him into drinking.

The 47-year-old recently spent a five-day stint in Poole Hospital following a drinking binge at his flat.

The former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is also believed to be facing eviction from his home following complaints from other tenants.

However, Gascoigne has insisted that other people are causing the noise by constantly ringing his doorbell at all hours.

"Up until a few weeks ago, I was doing great," the Daily Star quotes Gascoigne as saying. "I was fly-fishing most days, playing golf, keeping fit. I was happy – as happy as I have been in a long, long time.

"Then one night I suddenly started hearing the doorbell ring at all hours. It'd go on all night. The neighbours quickly started to complain. Then word gets out and people start saying, 'It must be Gazza, he must be drunk', when that simply wasn't the case."

Gascoigne received funds from famous faces, including Piers Morgan and Gary Lineker, to pay for a stint at a rehab clinic in the United States last year.
