Golfer Robert Allenby denies 'lying' about assault and kidnapping

Australian golfer Robert Allenby insists that he did not lie about allegedly getting robbed and kidnapped in Hawaii, amid confusion surrounding the events of the night.

Australian golfer Robert Allenby has insisted that he has been completely truthful about the events in Hawaii that left him with facial injuries.

The 43-year-old claimed that he was robbed and kidnapped from a wine bar in Honolulu after missing the cut at the Sony Open the previous day.

Allenby claimed that he was dumped from a car in a nearby park, but reports have stated that the golfer visited a strip club and was later spotted by two homeless men passed out on a street corner.

The sportsman revealed that he has no memory of how he suffered the injuries, but insists that he has not been lying about his version of events.

"My story stays exactly the same as the way I told it," BBC Sport quotes Allenby as saying. "I never lied to anyone. From about 11.06pm to about 1.27am, I have no memory in my brain. I have nothing.

"I can't tell you how frustrating that is because we all want to know the truth, we all want to get to the bottom of it. But there's no way in the world what I drank could do what was done to me, not a chance in the world."

Allenby is scheduled to compete in the Phoenix Open, which begins on Thursday.
