Lassana Diarra reveals death of cousin in Paris attacks

Lassana Diarra reveals that his sister was one of the victims of the series of terror attacks in Paris on Friday night.

Marseille midfielder Lassana Diarra has revealed that his cousin has been identified as one of the victims of Friday's terror attacks in Paris.

More than 127 people have been confirmed as dead after the series of incidents in France's capital on Friday night, explosions from some of which were heard during the national team's friendly with Germany at the Stade de France.

Diarra, who played 80 minutes for his country during that game, has taken to Twitter to reveal his own personal tragedy from the events.

In a tweet adorned with the hashtag '#PrayForPeace' he wrote: "Good evening to everyone. After the dramatic events in Paris and St Denis yesterday it is with a heavy heart that I address you today.

"As you perhaps already read I have been personally effected by these attacks. My cousin Asta Diakitie was among the victims of one of the shootings that took place, just like hundreds of other innocent French people. For me she was a great support, a big sister.

"In the climate of terror it is important for all of us, who are representatives of our country and its diversity, to speak up and stay united in the face of a horror which has neither colour nor religion.

"Together we must protect, love, respect and peace. Thank you to everyone for your updates and messages. Take care of you and yours, and may the victims rest in peace."

The former Arsenal, Chelsea and Portsmouth midfielder, along with his international teammates and the Germany squad, stayed overnight at the stadium on Friday.
