Manchester United top Twitter statistics as most-talked about club

Manchester United top the social media table as they were the most talked-about Premier League club on Twitter during the season.

Manchester United finished the season at the top of the social media table, as Twitter statistics show that Louis van Gaal's side dominated conversations throughout the season.

United didn't finish as high on the pitch, but they managed to seal Champions League qualification by claiming fourth spot in the standings.

Statistics released by Twitter reveal that Chelsea were the second most-talked about club, while Arsenal were third, Liverpool fourth and Stoke City rarely dominated online conversations as they have been placed at the bottom of the list.

Juan Mata's second goal in United's 2-1 win over arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield generated the most tweets.

In terms of followers, Arsenal are the most popular with 5.8 million, while Chelsea are second with 5.6 million and United third with 5.1 million.
