Manchester United stars donate match-worn socks to charity

Manchester United's players donate their match-worn socks to a relief effort in Japan relating to the earthquake and tsunami from three years ago.

Manchester United's players have decided to donate their match-worn socks as part of a charity initiative alongside company Kagome.

The pieces of clothing will be sent to the region of Tohoku in Japan, which was highly affected by the earthquake and tsunami three years ago this month.

The socks will be used to make 'Onukun' dolls for the residents who have been left homeless in the region due to the natural disaster.

United's managing director for Asia Pacific Jamie Reigle told the club's official website: "Kagome's commitment to aid efforts in the tsunami-affected areas of Japan is the primary reason Manchester United chose to partner with Kagome."

Shinji Kagawa, Phil Jones and Alexander Buttner are among those that have donated match-day socks.
