The staff at Manchester United swiftly deleted a tweet wishing former striker Dion Dublin a happy birthday they had posted seconds before confirming David Moyes's sacking.

The club's official Twitter account celebrated Dublin turning 45 years old a minute before announcing that Moyes had lost his job.

United deleted the birthday tweet in order to purely focus on getting out a short statement claiming that Moyes would not finish the season with four games left to go.

The Scotsman, who was backed by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson when he was appointed last summer, oversaw the side suffer 15 defeats in all competitions during less than 10 months in charge.
