Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly took Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola out to dinner last month to congratulate him on winning the Premier League title.

The Citizens, who have been at the summit for most of the season, sealed the championship when the Red Devils fell to a 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion in April.

According to the Daily Mail, Ferguson momentarily put aside the long-standing rivalry to congratulate the City boss, taking him out for a meal in Manchester just days after the triumph.

Ferguson, who famously described the Etihad Stadium side as United's 'noisy neighbours' in 2009, has dined with Guardiola before, having a meal in a New York restaurant and trying to entice the Catalan coach to Old Trafford in 2012.

Man United were beaten by Guardiola's Barcelona in two Champions League finals, in 2009 and 2011.
