Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher reveals that Lionel Messi sent him a signed Barcelona shirt after he decided to retire.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed that he received a gift from Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi after announcing his retirement.

The Barcelona star signed one of his famous number 10 shirts for the former England international when approached by a friend of Carragher.

In his Daily Mail column, Carragher stated: "He wrote a kind message on it which says 'Para (For) Jamie. All the best in your retirement.' I played against him twice, back in February 2007, I'm still in shock he remembers who I am!"

Carragher will join former Manchester United rival Gary Neville as a Sky Sports pundit for the 2013-14 season.
