Burnley ban BBC presenter from getting ashes scattered on pitch

BBC radio presenter Tony Livesey reveals that Burnley have banned him from having his ashes scattered on Turf Moor.

BBC presenter Tony Livesey has joked that he will get his friends to defy Burnley's ban by scattering his ashes on the Turf Moor pitch.

The Radio Five Live presenter told listeners that he has been denied his wish by the club, who have claimed that scattering ashes would violate health and safety rules.

"Tony is one of our biggest and keenest fans and we love him here and hopefully he will have a very long and happy life," The Mirror quotes a Burnley spokesman as saying.

"But we, like most clubs, have strict rules on allowing ashes on the pitch as they are human remains and players are sliding and touching the grass all the time. We would suggest Tony's friends don't try to test our security as they won't get too far!"

Livesey mentioned the ban on air after discussing a story emanating from Brazilian side Corinthians, whose fans are reportedly being offered the chance to buy 70,000 burial plots.
