A homeless kitten named after footballer Lionel Messi is living up to his name by showing a surprising interest in the World Cup.

A homeless kitten has lived up to his name Lionel by showing an interest in the World Cup.

Named after Argentina's superstar Lionel Messi, the four-month-old kitten was found as a stray and brought to Southampton's Blue Cross rehoming centre, where he has been excitably watching the football.

Check out Lionel, who is now seeking a permanent home, chasing the ball around the TV in Blue Cross's video below.
