Report: Wojciech Szczesny hit with £20,000 smoking fine

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is fined £20,000 by the club for smoking after a game, according to reports.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has reportedly been slapped with a £20,000 fine after being caught smoking immediately after Thursday's 2-0 defeat at Southampton.

The Poland international is said to have lit up in the showers after the Gunners' error-laden performance at St Mary's on New Year's Day.

Szczesny, who was partially to blame for the Saints' opening goal, has now been hit with a hefty fine by manager Arsene Wenger, according to The Mirror.

Former Arsenal man John Jensen said on Monday that the 23-year-old was given a "huge fine" for an unspecified breach of conduct, and claimed that he had played his last game for the club.

However, the North Londoners have denied those suggestions - although Wenger did drop him for Sunday's 2-0 win over Hull City in the FA Cup, with David Ospina given the nod.

Jack Wilshere and Wenger's former captain William Gallas have also incurred the wrath of the Frenchman after being caught smoking in the past - Wilshere on two occasions.
