Former Arsenal star Kenny Sansom punched his ex-girlfriend's nephew following an argument, a court has heard.

The prosecution claimed that Denise Mullins's nephew Brian Pitty was punched in the back by Sansom after she called for him following a row with the retired footballer.

According to The Mirror, Sansom's lawyer Chloe Gardner told Bromley Magistrates' Court: "He accepts what he did was wrong. He is ill from alcohol."

The former England international, who has struggled with alcohol and gambling issues for some time, spent a period of time last year homeless.

Sansom was conditionally discharged after admitting assault.
