Great Britain win eight medals at Glasgow European Open, Owen Livesey takes gold

Owen Livesey wins gold at the European Open in Glasgow to contribute to the eight judo medals won overall by Great Britain.

Owen Livesey won gold as Great Britain's judo team took eight medals at the European Open in Glasgow.

Commonwealth champion Livesey, 24, beat fellow Brit Tom Reed by ippon in the under-81kg category final.

Ashley McKenzie lost by ippon to France's Vincent Manquest in the under-60kg bronze, but Philip Awiti-Alcaraz took under-100kg silver and Stuart McWatt, Andy Burns, Frazer Chamberlain, Ben Fletcher and Theodore Spalding-McIntosh all won bronze in their respective categories.

As well as the gold medal, Livesey secured 100 ranking points towards qualification for the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
