Lisa Kearney grabs first medal for Northern Ireland with judo bronze

Northern Ireland secure their first medal of the Commonwealth Games as Lisa Kearney grabs bronze in the women's under-52kgs judo.

Lisa Kearney secured Northern Ireland's first medal of the Commonwealth Games with a win over Canadian Audree Francis-Methot in the bronze-medal match of the women's under-52kgs judo this evening.

Kearney, 25, forced a submission from her opponent with 32 seconds of the contest remaining.

She had beaten South African number one Sinothanda Mva in her quarter-final but lost to England's Kelly Edwards in the semi-final.

Edwards had to settle for a silver medal as she was beaten by Scotland's Louise Renicks in the final.
