David Condon: 'England still aiming for hockey gold'

England hockey player David Condon insists that the team can still win the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

David Condon has insisted that England can still win gold in the men's hockey event at the Commonwealth Games, despite losing a pool game to New Zealand.

The English team sit second in their pool following the 2-1 defeat earlier this week, and play Canada in their final pool match this morning.

Condon told Leicester Mercury: "We wanted to dominate the game with the ball and I think we did that for the majority, it was just that final last bit of finishing where we were a bit off the pace.

"It is always nice to play a game that is quite tight but obviously you want to come out on the right end of things. We will look at the video and move on, we're still aiming for gold and we're still in a good position to get there."

The top two from each pool progress to the semi-finals.
