Eleftherios Petrounias wins first European Games gold for Greece

Russia's Nikita Ignatyev misses out on a second European Games gold after being pipped to the post by Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece in the men's rings final.

Greece have won their first ever gold medal at the European Games, courtesy of Eleftherios Petrounias's success in the men's rings final.

The 24-year-old world champion managed to edge out the Russian Federation's Nikita Ignatyev, who was seeking a second gold at these inaugural Games.

Petrounias scored 15.633 at the National Gymnastics Arena to edge out his opponent's tally of 15.333, meaning top spot for Greece for the first time in Baku.

Turkey's Ibrahim Colak secured bronze, meanwhile, ensuring that there would be no medal for Azerbaijan's Oleg Stepko who had earlier taken silver in the men's pommel horse.
