Rory McIlroy in contention at Arnold Palmer Invitational

Rory McIlroy shoots a six-under-par second round to keep himself in contention at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which is still being led by American Morgan Hoffman.

Rory McIlroy kept himself in contention at the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a second-round 66 on Friday.

The world number one shot his first sub-70 round, which included five straight birdies on the front nine, on American soil this year to move into the top 10 at Bay Hill.

Overnight leader Morgan Hoffman was one of the few men to outscore the Northern Irishman as he shot seven-under-par to go three clear on 13-under for the tournament.

Henrik Stenson is among the chasing pack at 10-under, along with Americans Matt Every and Harris English, while New Zealander Danny Lee was the big mover of the day as he stormed from level par to eight under.

Neither Ian Poulter nor Louis Oosthuizen could fully build on their promising first rounds, but remain well positioned on seven-under-par heading into the weekend.
