Hiroshi Iwata ties Major record at Whistling Straits with second-round 63

Hiroshi Iwata posts a second-round score of 63 at Whistling Straits to help write his name in Major history.

Hiroshi Iwata has created history at the US PGA Championship by recording the joint-lowest round score ever at a Major.

Following a first-round 77 at Whistling Straits, the 34-year-old posted 63 in Friday's second round.

It is the 27th 63 in Major history, and the 13th at this event, with the most recent being claimed by Jason Dufner two years ago.

Iwata made eight birdies, an eagle and a bogey to shoot his way to the nine-under score, which propelled him up the leaderboard from five-over after the first day of play.

The world number 102's par on the 18th helped him on his way to setting the course record, coming on the back of birdies on holes 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17.
