Jack Nicklaus: 'Rory McIlroy can win 20 Majors'

Jack Nicklaus believes that Rory McIlroy, who won a second successive Major at the USPGA Championship, has the potential to break his record of 18 Major wins.

Jack Nicklaus believes that Rory McIlroy has the potential to surpass his historic tally of 18 Major victories.

The world number one held off the challenges of Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Henrik Stenson to win the US PGA Championship at Valhalla on Sunday for a fourth Major triumph, and a second in succession.

Nicklaus had previously seen his record come under threat by Tiger Woods, but the American has stalled at 14 Majors and the 74-year-old golfing great now thinks that McIlroy could be the one to set a new benchmark.

"I think Rory has an opportunity to win 15 or 20 Majors or whatever he wants to do if he wants to keep playing," he told ESPN.

"It depends on what he feels his priorities are and that's his call."

Northern Irishman McIlroy, 25, can complete his Major collection by winning at The Masters next April.
