Rory McIlroy insists that his preparations for the Masters are on course after finishing second at the Texas Open.

Rory McIlroy has insisted that his display at the Texas Open is a positive marker as he prepares for the Masters at Augusta National.

The Northern Irishman carded 66 in his final round at San Antonio today to finish second in the warm-up tournament, just behind eventual winner Martin Laird.

McIlroy believes that he made the right decision to play in Texas and is not worried about his troubles from the tee.

He told CBS Sports: "To finish off this tournament with a round like today is obviously great going into Augusta.

"I'm really pleased with my game right now, I think this has been a really great week for me."

The 23-year-old is chasing his third major title and first success at the Masters, which gets underway in Georgia on Thursday.
