Nico Rosberg: 'Mercedes must become bulletproof'

Nico Rosberg insists that Mercedes must become "bulletproof" in order to keep hold of their lead at the top of the standings.

Nico Rosberg has insisted that Mercedes must become "bulletproof" in order to keep hold of their overall lead.

Mercedes were edged out for the first time this season in last week's Canadian Grand Prix by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo. Despite this, Rosberg is still first in the drivers' standings, with teammate Lewis Hamilton in second place.

"We need to make sure that we're bulletproof," Rosberg is quoted as saying by Planet-F1.com "Having lost the win, that's very, very disappointing, definitely, and also disappointing for us as a team.

"We have such speed and such a great car, to not win the race and even just finish with one car and come second is hugely disappointing for us, definitely.

"Our ambition is to finish one-two so we need to make sure that we get back there again next race in Austria."

The Austrian Grand Prix takes place on June 22.
