Jenson Button: "I want to race at McLaren next year"

Jenson Button says that he would like to race at McLaren next season, although a decision over his Formula 1 future has yet to be made.

Jenson Button has revealed that he is still in the dark with regards to his formula 1 future, but admits that he would like to remain at McLaren next year.

The Woking-based constructor are expected to make a decision over whether to retain the 2009 world champion today after his contract expired at the end of last season.

Fernando Alonso is in line to race for McLaren next season, meaning that one of Button or Kevin Magnussen is likely to miss out.

When asked by Sky Sports News about his future, the 34-year-old said: "That is a question I still cannot answer, I don't know when we will all find out. I think for all of our sakes it is better sooner rather than later.

"I am with Kevin and we have spent the last couple of days together and we've had some interesting conversations. Whatever way it goes it is better that we know sooner rather than later. If I am in Formula 1 next year it is obviously an exciting challenge with the new engine and the new atmosphere within the team.

"If I am not I've got other exciting challenges that I want to partake in so I wouldn't worry about me. But it is just nicer to know sooner rather than later. I want to race at McLaren next year. I want to race in Formula 1."

Button finished in eighth place in the 2014 drivers' standings.
