Jenson Button: 'Retirement at end of season is an option'

Jenson Button says that he has yet to open up contract talks with McLaren, and could retire at the end of the season.

Jenson Button has admitted that he may be forced to retire at the end of the current Formula 1 season should McLaren contract talks fail to materialise.

The Woking-based outfit are said to be courting Fernando Alonso to become lead driver next year, leaving Button's own future in the balance.

"We haven't sat down and talked about it," the 34-year-old told BBC Sport. "If I have to retire at the end of the season then so be it, but I feel I have so much more to give and I can't imagine life without motorsport and especially Formula 1."

Button, who is currently in eighth place in the drivers' standings, finished seventh in the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend.
