Ricardo Rodriguez on target as Wolfsburg reach DFB-Pokal semis

Ricardo Rodriguez's second-half penalty is enough for Wolfsburg to beat Freiburg in the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal.

Wolfsburg are one win away from reaching just their second DFB-Pokal final thanks to a 1-0 win over Freiburg in the quarter-finals this evening.

After a slow-going opening half-hour, both sides were close to breaking the deadlock before half time in an action-packed final 15 minutes of the opening period.

Jonathan Schmid went close for the visitors before Bas Dost, Luiz Gustavo and Vierinha were all kept out by Roman Burki in the Freiburg goal.

Former Chelsea duo Andre Schurrle and Kevin De Bruyne both sent shots just wide in the early stages of the second half and Wolfsburg would eventually break through 20 minutes from time.

Julian Schuster brought down Daniel Caligiuri in the area, with Ricardo Rodriguez firing the ball into the corner from 12 yards.

Maximilian Philipp and Mike Frantz almost equalised for Freiburg, but Wolfsburg held on and progress to the last four.

The last time they reached the final was 20 years ago when they lost 3-0 to Borussia Monchengladbach.
